Opportunites to Serve

The Conklin Volunteer Fire Department is staffed entirely by volunteers from the Conklin community that we serve. With the ever increasing demands from work and family commitments, new members are needed, and welcomed, to help us provide the services that we do to protect and serve our community.

You don’t have to be the one who rushes into a burning building to be a member of our department. Fire fighters perform many different duties and if you have an interest in serving, we will find a job that is within your comfort zone and physical ability. That may be driving the trucks and operating the pumps, operating hose lines, directing traffic, filling air bottles serving with the swift water rescue team, or many other things. We also have a great need for personnel to participate with our emergency medical services (EMS) team.

To be a member we require that you have lived in the Town of Conklin for at least six months and are at least 16 years of age. Members must complete a written application available HERE, pass an arson background check, and undergo a free physical exam conducted by the Broome County Health Department. The applicant is then presented for membership and, depending on the level of fire fighting duties the applicant chooses to participate in, must successfully complete training courses provided by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
